Quick Measurement

A quick polling app that enables participants to see real time results.

THE CHALLENGE

To find a simple way to quickly gather definitive and binary opinions from a target group.

There are a number of current tools which cater for longer in depth questionnaires. These are often reserved for annual engagement surveys rather than quick pulse checks. Employee engagement consultant, Caitlin Kirwan commented on how continual measurement is key, saying “If you truly want to temperature-check employee engagement levels, you need to be constantly gathering feedback and asking how your organisation is doing.”

She also raised the need for anonymity, “Team leaders and people-managers might be reluctant to give honest answers that paint the real picture if they think the results will reflect badly upon them as leaders.”

Also raised during our research were the ‘grey areas’ and the ‘even spread results’ measurement often throws up. Drew Stephenson from the Yorkshire Building Society Group felt eliminating open questions and too many multiple choice answers could remove any ambiguity, finishing with “Push ‘em off the fence I say.”

RESPONDENTS

I wanted respondents to have an intuitive encounter with Push. For many users this would be their first impression of using it. Only 1 click required to respond and the ability to respond on a multitude of devices was critical. There needed to a feedback loop immediately giving users real time results to create a dynamic and engaging experience.

PROTOTYPING

I built prototypes in Adobe XD and conducted 1-2-1 interviews and observational tests with users. I tested different layouts for multi-choice responses and the timing of the sign up rollover.

BRANDED POLLS

After launching it became clear users required a limited number of sections to be customisable. We enabled colour changes to polls and the option to add a custom logo. I purposely wanted to limit the options to keep the customisation process simple and quick. The main consideration was that the results wheels would stand out against the button backgrounds. Giving users control of everything could results in a poor UI.

TESTIMONIALS

“Push takes away the ambiguity from decision-making and feedback measurement – enabling users to create custom polls in minutes and get decisive answers in seconds with the results in real-time.”

We need to be stricter with ourselves in measuring the impact of our work and this tool will definitely help.”
